Research Gate Profile

José A. Jiménez is a Research Scientist of C.S.I.C at the Department of Physical Metallurgy and head of the X-ray Laboratory in the National Center for Metallurgical Investigations (CENIM), Madrid. He studied physics at the Universidad de Sevilla, being awarded a Ph.D. with the qualification of summa cum laude in 1991 for his work on the Characterization and Mechanical Properties of Ultrahigh Boron Steels at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. In 1993 he joined the Max-Planck-Institut fur Eisenforschung in Dusseldorf, where he worked as postdoctoral fellow for four years in the research group of Professor G. Frommeyer. In 1997 he joined CENIM first as Tenured Scientist and since 2008 as Senior Scientist. At the same time, he was appointed as the scientific responsible of CENIM’s X ray laboratory since 2000. His laboratory work has included the participation in national and regional financing programs for the purchase of high- and mid-range laboratory equipment, along with teaching training courses aimed at obtaining practical experience in both the handling of equipment and the use of software packages for the evaluation of experiments.
He has participated and coordinated R&D projects within the framework of the European Union Funds programme, the Spanish National R&D&I Plans and regional R&D projects, as well as numerous non-competitive R&D&i Contracts with various industries. As a result of this research work, he co-authored 229 papers published in journals indexed in JCR (60% of them in the first quartile) that has been cited 5200 times, with an average of 500 cites/year in the last 5 years. His author h-index is 38 according to the Scopus database and he has been granted with 5 sexennium. He is the co-author of one patents on Cold rolled steel flat product for deep drawing application and has supervised undergraduate, master and doctoral students. He participates in national and international committees for the evaluation of scientific proposals, his most recent activity being his incorporation in 2022 to College 1 (Applied Materials Science, Instrumentation and Techniques) of the Laue Langevin Institute in Grenoble
Their actual research lines include the development of high alloy steels, creep resistant materials, complex alloys exhibiting multiple hardening mechanisms (including the TRIP and TWIP effect) and new materials with customized mechanical or magnetic properties based on nanostructures generated through non-equilibrium processes.
