Since joining MATERALIA-CENIM in 2003, Dr. Garcia-Mateo has focused on:
1. Multi-scale microstructure analysis of bainitic steels
2. Atomic mechanisms of phase transformations
3. Microstructure-property relationships
4. Industrial applications of nanostructured bainitic steels
His work has fostered collaborations with prestigious institutions worldwide and partnerships with leading steel manufacturers. With over 150 publications, 17 book chapters, and 8,000+ citations (h-index 49), Dr. Garcia-Mateo’s contributions have earned international recognition, including the Vanadium Award (200 & 2008) and Cook/Ablett Award (2015) from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining-UK.
Dr. Garcia-Mateo has led numerous European and Spanish research projects, supervised 6 PhD theses and multiple internships, and contributed over 300 peer reviews. He serves on international scientific evaluation committees and continues to advance materials science as head of the Phase Transformation Laboratory at CENIM, focusing on innovative steel designs and characterization techniques to meet evolving industry needs.
