Diego earned his Engineering in Materials degree from the University of Concepción (Chile) in 2021. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Concepción, focusing on the design of creep-resistant, self-healing steels through Laves phase precipitation. His research integrates strategies such as genetic algorithms, text mining, and thermodynamic simulations. He is a recipient of the National Doctoral Scholarship awarded by the Chilean National Agency for Research and Development (ANID). Diego also participated in a Chilean FONDECYT initiation project, contributing to the development of high-performance Laves phase-reinforced steels for energy applications. During his doctoral research internship at CENIM, he developed steel design strategies using large language models (LLMs), such as GEMINI AI, and natural language processing (NLP) models based on BERT, to optimize the design of high-performance metallic alloys.
