Ana Santana González obtained her BEng. in Sport Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University (United Kingdom) in 2019 and her MSc. in Design & Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2021. At present, she is a PhD student at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP-CSIC). Her research work is carried out at the National Centre for Metallurgical Research (CENIM-CSIC), in the Department of Physical Metallurgy under the supervision of Prof. Francisca G. Caballero. She has participated in the ongoing European project NewAIMS (RFCS-2022-101112371) and in several collaborations with ArcelorMittal Global R&D SLab, investigating the effect of additive manufacturing printing parameters on the solidification structure of various steels. Additionally, as part of an international collaboration she has held several visits to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA).
Ana’s PhD research goal is to understand the relationship among steel processing, its structure and its mechanical properties. In this regard, the main objective of this thesis is to understand how the Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology affects the microstructure of maraging steels and its evolution during post-processing.
