Prof. Ms. Francisca G. Caballero is Research Professor and Head of MATERALIA-Steel Group at the Spanish National Centre for Metals Research (CENIM-CSIC). In addition, she collaborates with the Spanish Research Agency (AEI) as Coordinator of the Structural Materials Sciences and Technologies Area (MAT-MES) in the Division for Scientific and Technical Coordination, Evaluation and Monitoring. She obtained her Ph.D. in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1999 for studying solid-solid phase transformations in steels during reheating. From 1997 to 2000, she worked as a research associate at the University of Cambridge in UK on the design of carbide-free bainitic steels. She returned to CENIM with a Ramón y Cajal fellowship to work on advanced super-high strength steels. She was appointed Tenured Scientist in 2005, Senior Scientist in 2009 and Research Professor in 2018. She has held a visiting scientist position at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge-TN-USA since 2004. Moreover, between September 2013 and October 2014 she has been the Deputy Director of Science at CENIM, and Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Research at Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP) between October 2014 and December 2018. From 2018 to 2021 she has worked for Elsevier Inc as Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Materials: Metals and Alloys published by in 2021, a collective work of 4 volumes, 8 sections and around 2500 pages. She has coordinated and participated in different European and Spanish research projects. She has published more than 240 articles; her works have been cited in more than 11,200 articles and she presents an h-index of 53 according to the Scopus database. She is the co-author of three patents on advanced steels and has supervised undergraduate, master and pre-doctoral students. Since August 2020, she is supervisor of the Erasmus + Program ‘Student Mobility for Traineeships’, training Postgraduate students in ‘Additive Manufacturing od Steel’ for Kaunas Univ. of Techn. (Lithuania), Univ. of Crete (Greece), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Univ. di Pisa (Italy) and TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany).

In addition, Prof. Caballero is member of the Board of Governors of Acta Materialia Inc., member of the Editorial Board of the journals Materials Science and Technology and European Journal of Materials, member of the Board of Review of the journal Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, and member of the Phase Transformation Committee of The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) of USA. On April 18, 2024, the Fundación Tatiana awarded her the VIII Julio Peláez Award for Women Scientists with Civic Leadership in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
